The Just be Kind Vegan Dog Food website provides some beneficial information for making homemade meals for dog-people, including different foods and optimal quantities. The site suggests that when preparing food for us canine-people, you can have 50% of our food come from high protein sources. This can include dried lentils, red lentils, yellow split peas, chickpeas, red kidney beans, black-eyed beans, tofu, and even textured vegetable protein.

Try having about 20% grains in our meals. This can include black rice, brown rice, red rice, pearl barley, oats, quinoa, millet, polenta, etc. Have about 20% of our food consisting of vegetables, with half being green vegetables and half colored vegetables. Fruit also provides some excellent nutrients, so try for around 5% of our diet to be fruit.

We also need some healthy fats added to home-cooked meals which will account for about 5% of our diet. Oils that may be added to our food include olive, sunflower, flaxseed, linseed, and sesame oil. Nuts and seeds such as tahini, peanut butter, ground almonds, and ground pumpkin seeds also provide us with healthy fats. I would like to take this opportunity to say that if you can give us organic ingredients, we would love it so much.

Let’s also look at some ingredients that must be avoided by dog-people. Please never feed your beloved dog-people companions the following foods, as they can cause harm. These include foods with caffeine, such as coffee, chocolate, and cocoa, and anything with xylitol, like sugar-free candy, grapes, raisins, sultanas, onion, and avocadoes.

When assembling all the healthy foods for us, a simple way is to put everything into a bowl and stir it all up. Another way to assemble the ingredients is to mix them and bake them. Another way to bind all the ingredients is to use agar-agar to make the food into a firm consistency similar to canned food.

Please also consider adding some special supplements to provide key nutrients when making food at home. Adding B12 to our diet and the amino acids taurine and carnitine is ideal.
