Throughout history, the spirit of enlightened masters has been the everlasting inspiration for artistic and cultural activities in the human world. Lao Tzu, the ancient master of supreme wisdom and boundless virtue is such an example. For over two thousand years, his teaching has benefited the land and the people with a very precious spiritual lineage and splendid cultural traditions. Sima Chengzhen was the twelfth patriarch of the Shangqing School of Taoism. He was famous for combining Taoist, Confucian and Buddhist methods of spiritual cultivation all together. Sima Chengzhen wrote or edited fifteen books, of which nine are still extant. The book of Master Celestial Seclusion, according to Sima Chengzhen’s preface in this book, was a record of the teachings he received from Master Celestial Seclusion.
