Topher White is an engineer and physicist, as well as CEO and founder of Rainforest Connection. The non-profit is using upcycled cell phones in a scalable way to detect the menacing racket of chainsaws amidst the sounds of rainforest inhabitants such as bird-persons, insects, and others, to help preserve their living environment from illegal loggers. His organization has transformed unwanted cell phones into the world’s first real-time audio detection system that monitors chainsaw activity and other noises throughout the rainforest. Through this innovation, intervention can happen in real-time, preventing animal-people poaching operations and halting unauthorized logging.
“I personally believe that the sound of our living planet is the least utilized and potentially most powerful tool for being able to protect (the) natural world as it is right now. That’s why we put these Guardians up so they can listen to all the sounds, stream it to the cloud, and we can use pretty advanced artificial intelligence to pick out what’s there. But it’s amazing what this sort of means when you’re really a part of it. So, like right now, streaming from the farthest reaches of our planet, we can listen to what it sounds like in Indonesia.”

Anomalous weather phenomena ravage United States Midwest.
On December 10 and 11, 2021, at least 41 tornadoes devastated five midwestern states in the US, with sadly over 90 people losing their lives and thousands being left without homes or power. A few days later, unusually high temperatures fueled strong winds, wildfires, dust storms and more tornadoes in the region, resulting in at least five more fatalities as well as electricity outages in over 400,000 homes and businesses. According to Brian Barjenbruch of the National Weather Service in Nebraska, the large number of windstorms is “unusual,” and the timing of their occurrences is “really abnormal.” Meanwhile, Dr. Victor Gensini of Northern Illinois University highlights that such extreme weather events are amplified by climate change. Our sincere condolences go to the families of the deceased. May the souls of those who lost their lives rest in peace. Saudi women now permitted to drive taxis.
The General Directorate of Traffic of Saudi Arabia has announced that Saudi women can apply for a taxi license with a fee of about US$53. This change builds on the historic decree in 2017 that gave Saudi women the right to drive. Since then, over 174,000 driving licenses have been issued to them and many have filled transportation-related jobs. Now, being a driver for mobility apps such as Uber and Careem is an opportunity available to females. This is the most recent reform in the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud’s Vision 2030 strategy to diversify the kingdom’s economy. Spanish underprivileged youth play instruments built with discarded materials.
In 2014, Spanish environmentalist group Ecoembes invited Paraguay’s Cateura orchestra to perform in Madrid. The musicians were from a disadvantaged area who played instruments created from materials designated for landfills. Ecoembes soon decided to bring a similar project to the youth of Spain called Music of Recycling. Third-generation instrument craftsperson, Fernando Soler, utilizes wooden boxes, cutlery, cans, and parts of abandoned music instruments to build violins, guitars, string basses, drums, and more for the young enthusiasts. Four members of the orchestra have received scholarships to attend music schools and public conservatories, and over 100 local children are being taught how to play instruments by the participants of the ensemble. Youth gives thousands of toys to children with cancer in hospital.
Eleven-year-old David Lauritzen from Texas, United States, started David’s Toy Project at the age of six with his parents’ help, to cheer up hospitalized pediatric cancer patients. Now cancer-free, David was diagnosed with a rare cancer at the time, so he felt empathy for their difficult journey. “I want to make kids with cancer smile,” he answered when his mother asked how he wished to commemorate Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. David was able to raise over US$1,100 in a few weeks and bought 220 gifts for that event. His project receives ample support, and in 2020, he received US$12,750 in contributions as well as hundreds of donated toys. Gifts of new books were recently welcomed in time to be given as Christmas gifts. We gratefully applaud your tender heart, David Lauritzen. Korean food and beverage company Yangyoo and Canada-headquartered dairy-free business Daiya Foods are both set to expand their vegan cheese and other plant-based offerings internationally. Yangyoo debuted its new vegan cheese items for the US under the Armored Fresh brand name at CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2022 held in Las Vegas, United States, and is the first Korean company to introduce vegan cheese at the event. Daiya Foods has announced an agreement with food distributor Hyundai Green Food to manage the sales and distribution of its vegan cheese, burritos, pizza, salad dressings, frozen desserts, and more in Korea. Daiya products are currently available across Hyundai’s 20 stores and e-commerce channels. In March 2022, the brand’s items will be sold at Hyundai Green Food outlets, grocery stores, e-commerce platforms, and natural independent stores. Cruel horse-people carriages to be banned from Melbourne, Australia’s Central Business District.
The Victorian state government is set to prohibit horse-people-drawn carriages in the busiest parts of Melbourne, following years of campaigning by animal-people rights activists. Equine-persons have a sensitive nature, and the carriages are an unsafe and outdated form of transportation within the busy city environment full of trams, sirens and pedestrians. Furthermore, the horse-people are often forced to work long hours throughout the hot Australian summers and kept in inadequately sized spaces to move about and rest. Melbourne Lord Mayor, the Right Honorable Sally Capp, commented on the ban, saying, “It’s better for pedestrians, it’s better for car drivers, it’s better for tram drivers, [and] it’s better for the animals …” Our big applause, state of Victoria, for your progressive, compassionate action. May our brothers and sisters of the equine kingdom be granted the freedom they very much deserve, in Divine grace.

Dear Supreme Master TV team, I used to blame others and see the negative side or wrongdoings of friends and other people, and always felt I was the best and right in doing anything. However, after I watched Supreme Master TV on YouTube, and I watch it during all my spare time now, I’ve slowly started to change my view of other people’s doings. I see that all people have a good heart, have the Buddha seed and can do good things. I believe that if we blame other people’s wrongdoings or mistakes, they will do more wrong and make more mistakes. Our blaming or condemning becomes a prayer. Instead, I pray every day that people and all sentient beings be protected by all Buddhas, all Bodhisattvas and all Devas in the ten directions, and that they will be granted good health and good conditions to live in the world. I pray that demons, evils, satan, and maya leave the world and stop teasing people to do wrong. They shall return back to their original dwellings in hell and be saved by Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva.
